Night on the town with Averill as a semi-local
At lunch I went with Sophie to Carrefour (the pseudo-Super Wal-Mart near the office) to get a few things. For example, I had yet to find distilled water for the iron, and she’d offered to help me find those things I couldn’t. So that was a huge help. She was surprised to hear about my 15-walk from the parking garage to the apartment, though – good thing I didn’t need to get anything heavy. After work I met up with Averill for drinks and dinner. We met at Charlie Horsey for a drink -- he was impressed I knew enough of the city to have a recommendation -- then went to this Asian place down the street. Not too bad. After dinner we went back to DogStar ["changed" -- that's for you, Neil,] which was much busier with one more week of business under their belts. However, I am sad to report that they make the worst mojito I’ve ever had in my life. Ever. It was terrible. So while I was glad to help support a fledgling business, we were outta there after one round. Back to Charlie Horsey, where I’m pleased to say, they make a fantastic mojito. I’m not surprised. Reliable again.
Averill’s going to Portugal this weekend; I told him to tell me how it is, since I’ll be there for one night next week for work. He also wants for us to go to London next weekend. Not so sure about that. For one thing, I’m not sure I’m quite ready to spend a whole weekend together, and I’m not sure if I really want to deal with the whole accommodation question. (Let me put it this way: we are definitely not sharing a hotel room, but I’m not sure I want to broach that question.) Plus, I’ve told him that I want to experience living in Paris as my first priority, rather than traveling all the time and not feeling like I’ve had any expat experience at all. So we’ll see about that one…
